The Forest Side, Grasmere.

I was back up in The Lake District again after last week's photo shoot at The Samling. The Forest Side has been a long time coming and I couldn't wait to eat and photograph the food. We're such big fans of head chef Kevin Tickle from when he was head chef at Rogan & Co.
It's such an impressive place, I even got a tour of the swish rooms (three are even dog friendly). The Dining Room is modern, clean, fresh and bathed in light with views over to the nearby hills.
I sampled the epic (longer) tasting menu priced at £75.
We begin with some snacks.
Goosnargh Duck Giblets, Hazelnut Whey, Sauerkraut.
Seaweed broth, Kohlrabi, surf clams, marsh herbs.
Venison Pastrami, smoked juniper yoghurt, swede, corra linn, pickled allium flowers.
West Coast Scallop, parsnip, duck prosciutto, "our mead".
Catherine's Garden Salad, ragstone, scurvy grass, sourdough crumpet.
Line caught Halibut, conifer, salsify, mussels, wispy leeks.
Aged Shorthorn Rib, Caramelised celeriac, bone marrow, cavolo nero.
Frozen Yoghurt, celery, lemon thyme.
Scorched pear, malt, ginger beer.

Rhubarb, burnt butter, sweet cicely.

Tea.
I think it's not a case of if The Forest Side gets a Michelin star but when.
