Baratxuri, Ramsbottom.

If you'd have been in Ramsbottom a few Sundays ago you might have seen food critic Jay Rayner return to Levanter to get his promised Basque steak which you first heard about on here way back in July. I went back too, to Baratxuri again, just round the corner to take some more food related photos for Fiona & Joe (see the initial preview here). This time I had precious daylight, just before the clocks changed to plunge us all into gloom. When winter returns, I always try to remember we still have lovely, joyful restaurants like this to cheer us up. There's so much colour in these photos I though it was a shame not to share them on here.
Octopus-salpicon & Pepper Vinegrette £3.
Pouring Txakoli (pronounced Chak-o-lee) a sparkling white wine popular in the Basque country. You can actually get this in M&S.
Piquillo Peppers & Bonito Tuna (£2).
Gernika peppers. (£3).
Jamon & txistorra (Basque sausage) sausage rolls.

Txangurro (Spider Crab, £3).
Kroketa (£3).
Charcuterie (£2).
Morcilla, piquillo and quails egg (£3).
Spanish brandy. They have 100 year old stuff from Greys Fine Foods although this isn't what we poured for the shoot! (If you hadn't any idea what to get me for Christmas).
The more I think of it, the madder it seems that nobody thought of doing a pintxos bar up here before. Then again I'm not sure I'd trust everyone to do it properly as Levanter have done. Topa!
