My Top 10 For Street Food.

'Street Food' became massive last year in Manchester. Just in Chorlton alone, 2013 started off with The Hungry Gecko at The Beech, then Guerrilla Eats taking over at The Beagle before Margo and Rita took full time residence. These are how I prefer my 'street' eats, not actually in the street as such but in a pub with drinks and seats. (I'm old). However, you're missing some right treats if you don't give some of these below a go. So here's my favourite ten from last year. I hope to try even more this year. (In no particular order).
The Hungry Gecko. At the Beech Chorlton. I reckon I've eaten Jackie's fabulous food more than any other this year as it's just so convenient to me being in my local pub of choice. Even if we've already eaten it's too tempting not to snack on this super spicy food. Favourite dish; Pani Puri.
Margo and Rita. At the Beagle Chorlton. Always good food and great beer to go with it. Favourite dish; Fish Tacos.
Arepa!Arepa!Arepa! At Levenshulme Market. Watch out for these guys this year, I believe they may have something new planned. Unique and hearty food. Favourite dish; Butifarra.
Honest Crust. Altrincham Market and various locations. As I've mentioned before, the best pizzas I've tried in Manchester. Favourite dish; Any pizza.
Great North Pie Co. Various locations. Pies of great beauty. Favourite dish; the cheese and onion pie.
All about Pies. Various locations. I must have one of their pies nearly every week at The Beech where a pie and a pint is just £5. Favourite dish; The homity.
Fire & Slice Pizza. Various locations. I had a lovely pizza from Fire & Slice Pizza at the MFDF. (Ask for extra cheese).
Fire and Salt BBQ Co. Various locations. My new years resolution is to eat more meat and these guys are amongst the best BBQr's around.
Gingers Comfort Emporium. Various locations, currently at Affleck's Palace. I've rarely passed up an opportunity to eat the finest home made ice cream in town. Favourite dish; Chorlton crack.
Chaat Cart. Various locations.
Lovely home made dosas and more. Favourite dish; The dosas.
Soundtrack; Street Player - Chicago.

  1. Good to see some genuine Indian street food like pani puri (even if it looks dressed up) & chaat & dosa finally coming into their own in the UK. Although for some reason they never have quite the burst of flavour as in India. Must be in the mind!
