My Favourite 10 Aldi Wines.

Here are my favourite 10 Aldi wines. Unlike larger supermarkets like Tesco, their wines are never on fake offers, they're always fantastic value and very well chosen by the one and only wine buyer Mike James(@drmikerjames on twitter). Obviously this list reflects my own personal tastes, but nearly everything I'd had from Aldi over a fiver has been good especially in the Exquisite Collection. As is always the case, if you spend a few quid over a fiver you're getting a much better wine.
Some of these have been on the blog before some are newly tasted.
1. Exquisite Collection Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011. (£6.49).
I'm not sure there's a better value wine out there now than this for me. It's just delicious, simple as that. Big bold and packed with blackberry fruits. I can't get enough of this one, it's exactly the sort of red I like to drink at any time.
2. Exquisite Collection Uco Valley Malbec 2011. (£5.99).
Another favourite, gorgeous silky smooth and spicy, a real easy drinking bargain.
 3. Exquisite Collection Albariño Rias Baixas. (£5.99).
I wish I'd have known at the time that this was a LTD edition, I would have bought a case. Light and clean and fresh, Albariño is my favourite white at the moment.
4. Exquisite Collection Sud de France Sauvignon Blanc Viognier 2012. (£5.99). Made by Jean-Claude Mas. This is beautiful crisp and floral. I absolutely loved it.
5. Minarete Ribera del Duero 2011. (£5.49).
Velvety smooth, rich and spicy with pleasing black cherry notes.
6. Exquisite Collection Limestone Coast Chardonnay 2012. (£5.99).
Lovely clean and tropical. Buttery and sweet, peaches, mango and passion-fruit flavours. Very pleasant.
7. Primitivo. (£4.89). I love primitivo and this is brilliant for the price. I think it was a limited edition wine.
8. Toro Loco Reserva.  (£4.99). Plummy and dark cherry fruits, very nice for a fiver.
 9. Exquisite Collection Valpolicella Ripasso. (£7.99). It's not my favourite
Valpolicella I've tried, but it's decent especially for the price.
10. Exquisite Collection Chianti Classico Riserva. (£8.99).
Dry, and savoury with
dark cherry flavours.
* Please note I'm no expert, I just like drinking the stuff. I figure the more I drink the more I'll know!

  1. A useful list; some I haven't tried...good timing for Xmas. Is the Albarino out of stock? I love the Toro Loco Reserve but haven't seen it for ages.

    1. The Albarino they only bought a limited amount so it was limited to a month or so. I've not seen Toro Loco Reserve for a bit either, but they're getting new stocks of loads of other wines in for Christmas.
