Home Sweet Home, Manchester.

I get really bored with people who complain about the "annoying coolness"of the Northern Quarter. We're dead lucky to have an area like it. 95% of people in this country (outside of London) live in boring indentikit Britain, where everywhere is exactly the same, dull chains, Costa Coffee and all the rest. I know loads of people of all ages; family and friends who don't live here, but visit as tourists, and they're envious we live here and have a huge choice of independent bars and restaurants, which are nearly always more interesting than chains. But we've still got those in Manchester if you lack the imagination to do something different.
I guess some people are intimidated by 'hipsters' or the painfully trendy. I have admitted to feeling under-dressed without a beard at times in the Northern Quarter, but luckily I'm at the age where I could care less about such things, I just enjoy trying new places out.

And there's always somewhere new to go, although I have to say, I don't often go at peak time, I enjoy it most in the early evening or in the day when it's more chilled and I'm too old to queue anyway.
This time it was time to visit Home Sweet Home. It's not new at all, but it's owned by the same people as Almost Famous, so I knew it'd be pretty good - it was. As it was sunny we sat outside, but I liked the quirky, cute, eclectic interior.
We shared their house specialities Cheeseburger Toastie and a Pulled Pork Bun and fries. They were both simply ace for what they were. We especially relished the cheeseburger toastie, I just regretted sharing it. Next time I'm having one on my own. To follow, some lovely banana and avocado cake, and coffee. It was all good, I really couldn't fault it at all. Most importantly it cost us about £20 for lunch for two of us which is decent value for the area. So, where to next?

  1. I love the Cheeseburger toastie! But I have to say the last two times we've been 80% of the service has been bordering on offensive :(
