Byron Burgers, Manchester.

Did you hear about Byron Burgers, the London based quality Burger chain opening a new branch in Manchester? I popped in for lunch today, it opens properly tomorrow, but they started their 'soft opening' yesterday. First impressions were good, I like the design of the interior, they're calling it LA Thrift. I can see some wit saying that it'll be all right when it's finished, with the rough plaster and exposed pipes. There's quite a bit of space outside as well, you can sit on Deansgate and watch the world go by.

There were loads of staff milling around, so I took a seat in the corner to get out of their way. I love visiting a restaurant when it's just opened, fresh and new and with that sense of excitement and anticipation.

I ordered a Byron Burger (Dry cure bacon, mature Cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion and Byron sauce £9.25) Fries (£2.95) and a Coke (£2.35). The coke came in the classic glass bottle and was ice cold as it should be. The burger soon arrived. It was a damn fine burger, medium pink, juicy and meaty, and not too big - just right in fact. The fries were good; hot, skinny and crisp. No faults there at all.
Yes I think Byron Burgers is a really good addition to Manchester.

So how does it compare to favourites Almost Famous and Solita? Perhaps not quite as good, but definitely in my personal Top Five Burgers in the city right now.
My bill came to £14.55, which is ok for me, but it'll be interesting to see if their pricing works for Manchester (AF is cheaper for instance) but it was a very good quality burger in a nice space.
I'd much prefer it to many other places in the centre of town, Southern 11 for example, so I will certainly be back to try the chilli burger next time.

  1. £9.25 for a burger. Not for me.

    1. This comment raises an interesting subject. In bringing a London based chain to Manchester, will they need to make changes in prices to match what people are prepared to pay? I doubt any one in London would say £9 is too much for a burger, but many people in our city have budget that they won't go over. We'll see if people are happy to pay this (although it's not actually that different in price to say Solita et al.)

  2. £2.35 for a single glass bottle of Coke? And frankly if the burger was almost a tenner Id expect fries to come with t, not to cost another few quid!

    1. Again, Byron take note, people of Manchester like to get good value for money!

  3. I was in there on Wednesday evening and actually prefer Byron burgers to Almost Famous. AF seem to pile so much on top of the burgers that they're almost an afterthought.
ANd an over-cooked afterthought in my recent experience.

  5. Can you reccomend a place to either eat or take out for a lunch time around the parsonage chambers/gardens area? I am newbie to manchester and do not know the best places for good food at a decent price. I don't really get the time to sit in and dine at a cafe or restaurant at lunch time so takeway would be ideal but maybe one day I can manage to pull myself away from the desk to sit and enjoy a meal in a restaurant or cafe at lunch time! A place that is in walking distance would be ideal! Thanks in advance for any suggestions, keep up the good work I love reading your blogs!

    1. Thanks!
On a budget I would try:
Katsouris Deli 113 Deansgate. Always popular and good value.
Shlurp! Brazennose House East, Brazennose Street. Not been myself but Mrs Bacon's a fan.
And maybe even Barburrito 65 Deansgate (see my recent review).
If you fancy upping your budget a little bit maybe also try The Mark Addy Stanley St, Salford.
Let us know how you get on.
