Solita, Manchester

In my quest for the best burgers Manchester has to offer I rarely revisit a restaurant more than once within a few months, there are just too many places yet to try. However the photos of the new specials from Solita by fellow bloggers were way too tempting to resist. It seems Solita and Almost Famous have got the best burgers in town just about sewn up (although I had a really good one recently at All Star Lanes). I'm also looking forward to Byron Burgers coming to Deansgate soon. We popped into Solita early last evening expecting it to be half full. We actually got one of the last tables in there. It's a lot busier than when we first dined there when it first opened, plus they have an upstairs and I believe are soon to add another floor in the basement. We ordered a  Manc-hattan (6oz minced chuck steak pattie Oven bottom roll, pastrami, melted Lancashire cheese, panko fried black pudding, Lancashire sauce, Coney island mustard (£12.90).

Also a special; The Parmo Panko & Parmesan fried Chicken breast, Bechamel Melted cheese, meatballs in marinara sauce with a brioche bun, fries and a home made garlic mayo (£15.90).

We decided to resist the starters this time, and I'm glad we did, the mains were massive. Firstly I sampled the Manc-hattan. On first mouthful I knew I was onto a winner, the runny gooey cheese and the pastrami making perfect bedfellows. I didn't really want to hand it over, but we were sharing both.

The Parmo was actually more 'trashy' than I thought it was going to be, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I think I'd have enjoyed it even more after a few pints. I wasn't drinking, well only Bundaberg Ginger beer, so started to struggle a bit. This food is big! I'm not sure it even needed the bun.

What I love about Solita is that they're always adding specials and improving the menu. Service was good especially the waitress who'd just started that day, and the atmosphere was buzzing.
I think we'll be back even sooner than later next time.

Price: £35 for two, with no alcohol is good value in the NQ.
Service: Good.
Food: Very good of its type.
Star dishes: The Manc-hattan is in my top 3 burgers now.
Mrs B preferred the Parmo.
Score: 8/10

  1. We tried to get a table last night! Must have been there around the same time as you. Couldn't believe it was so busy - must have been the sun as everywhere in the NQ was.
