This was my first beer from well rated Norwegian craft brewers Nøgne Ø and I had high hopes. God Jul is described as a 'winter ale', it actually tastes like a porter. If you normally like this sort of dark brew, you're going to love this. It pours a very dark brown with a creamy white head.
With gorgeous dark toffee flavours, it's got those familiar coffee, chocolate dark malts but with some spicy hop flavours coming through that are very pleasing. All the elements are well balanced, it's complex but smooth and highly drinkable, a very well made beer.
As the snow falls outside, this is a perfect winter brew.
God Jul - Nøgne Ø
8.50% ABV
8/10
I bought my bottle from Biercell in Altrincham.
They'll probably have it at the Port Street Beer House in Manchester.
